Love Frankie Hits the Big Screen with Katie Piper’s Weekend Escape.

You know we’re all about bold moves and even bolder lampshades over here at Love Frankie HQ, but this time we’ve taken things to the next level…

Our very own Creative Director and design guru, Johanna Franks, has officially made her TV debut on Katie Piper’s brand new ITV show, Weekend Escape!

In case you’ve been living under a very chic but heavy lampshade, Katie Piper is an absolute legend. She’s a best-selling author, TV presenter, and inspirational speaker who’s spent years advocating for inner confidence and positivity after surviving a life-changing acid attack in 2008. Her resilience and warmth have made her a national treasure – and now she’s bringing all that goodness to a brand new feel-good series.

Weekend Escape with Katie Piper is ITV’s heartwarming new show that’s basically a big comforting hug in TV form. Each episode, Katie whisks away a different celebrity guest for a relaxing and inspiring weekend away. Think: countryside charm, soulful chats, and fun, creative activities that spark joy (and maybe a bit of mess).

A few months back, our DMs lit up with a very exciting message – the producers of Weekend Escape had stumbled across our Instagram account and LOVED what we do (honestly, same). They were on the hunt for fun, creative experts to share inspiring lifestyle skills with Katie and her celeb guests.

Enter: Jo Franks, queen of the bold print, master of the maximalist aesthetic, and maker of very fabulous lampshades.

With her favourite jumpsuit packed, she jumped in a van packed to the rafters with lampshades, cushions, and table lamps, and headed off to a stunning countryside retreat to film a two-day shoot with Katie Piper and her guest, Love Island star Tasha Ghouri.

In the episode, Jo taught Katie and Tasha how to create a Single-Sided Lampshade from scratch – the perfect gateway craft if you’re new to DIY interiors but want to inject some personality into your home.

Then came the upcycling magic. Using the fabulous paints from Guild Lane (check them out here), Jo ran a full-blown masterclass on how to upcycle lampshades and table lamps, showing viewers how to breathe new life into tired homewares using colour, pattern, and a hefty dose of confidence.

It was pure Love Frankie style – bold, fun, unapologetically playful, and all about working with what you already have. Because we’re big believers that DIY should be a lot more joyful, and hopefully a lot less stressful!
